I'd like to say that I've created this blog out of some relentless need to share my personal life with the masses, but unfortunately, that's not the case. Rather, the decision to start a blog has come out of my need to fully understand the blogging culture and process.
I 'm a Director of Digital Media for a mid-size company (just under 200 employees) and while my job is to make sure our organization is taking full advantage of the latest digital media technology and trends, I personally do not contribute to the web as a user. I believe it's partly due to the fact that I work so closely with managing the company's content and other digital media contributions that I really don't feel like spending equal time for my own personal online presence.
But I'm pretty sure the main reason is that I'm a pretty private person. I don't feel the need to share every thought with the rest of the world. It is surprising how much people want/need to share with the public. I would rather reveal myself via personal relationships and communication. For me, the web is a great way to communicate, as long as it complements a strong offline relationship. When your friendships or other human connections are rooted online with little or no offline REAL contact, you neglect the fundamental experience of BEING with another human being, which isn't ideal for me.
That being said, I'm going to experiment for three months - updating this blog as often as possible with thoughts on those topics I find interesting at the time and think others may too. I may throw in a personal anecdote here or there, as long as I think it is either amusing or beneficial for someone else to read.
However, it's close to 11pm ET and I'm tired, so the first nuggets of pure wisdom will have to wait.
